LED lighting has become extremely popular in recent years as a way to reduce energy consumption in one’s home. This has likely lead RV owners to wonder if they should consider switching the light bulbs inside, as well as outside, of their trailer from traditional incandescent bulbs to energy-saving LED bulbs. When considering LED light bulbs for your trailer, many of the same pros and cons apply as when considering LED lights for your home. However, there are extra benefits LED lighting can provide in an RV that you should consider when contemplating switching to LED lighting in your RV. Here are just a few of the reasons why you should consider switching to LED trailer lights in your RV before your next trip.
Lasting Reliability of Your Trailer Lights
One of the greatest benefits of LED lighting for RV owners is that this form of lighting is extremely reliable and easy to maintain. Unlike incandescent light bulbs, which traditionally last around 2,000 hours, LED light bulbs last for up to 60,000 hours, which is about 7 to 10 years under average use. This means that you will not have to worry about a light bulb going out in your RV for many years to come.
Another important reason to consider LED lighting for your trailer lights is that LED light bulbs are much more durable than their incandescent counterparts are. The fact is that the ups and downs, jerking, and jostling of road travel can be hard on fragile light bulbs, and many campers have reached their destination only to realize that one or more of the light bulbs in their RV broke on the road. With LED light bulbs, you will be less likely to have to deal with this mess and hassle as LED lights have been known to better handle rough road travel. Furthermore, this will allow you to spend more time with your family at your destination rather than spending time replacing broken light bulbs.
While the energy-efficiency of LED light bulbs is something that has been greatly discussed as a benefit of using them in one’s home, it cannot be underestimated how beneficial this can be in your RV as well. While you do not have to worry about paying for electricity when at a campground, as you will likely be running off the campgrounds power, or your RV’s batteries, LED light bulbs can make a big difference when running off battery power. This is due to the fact that LED lights use roughly 10% of the power that standard RV lights consume. LED lights can allow you to go camping for greater periods of time without having to worry about recharging your batteries.
Generates Little Heat
As many RV owners are already likely aware of, traditional trailer lights can become extremely hot. This is due to the fact that halogen and incandescent lights can reach temperatures of upwards of 200 degrees Fahrenheit. On the other hand, LED lights burn at a temperature closer to 80 degrees. This means that while traditional RV lights can be dangerous as they can burn your hand when touched, which can easily happen in the tight spaces inside a trailer, LED lights are simply warm to the touch. This also makes LED lights more practical, as traditional lights can quickly heat up an RV, making it necessary to run the AC much more frequently; however this is not generally a problem one encounters with LED lights.
Just as LED lights have been shown to provide many benefits within your home, LED light bulbs can provide many benefits to RV owners as well. By providing lasting efficiency while putting off little heat, LED light bulbs make a great upgrade RV owners should consider adding to their trailer.
